America's Minutemen (book cover)Our next book, the fourth one in the Draw Your American Heritage series, is tentatively titled America’s Minutemen. Before the Revolutionary War and when it finally started the Minutemen played an important and crucial role.

The Minutemen were men with regular jobs and families. They were the first line of defense against the British and were at the Battle of Lexington, the battle that began the Revolutionary War and where the “the shot heard round the world” was fired.

It’s hard for us to imagine what it must have been like for these men and their families when they were called to duty, but here’s the introduction from the new book that might help:

Imagine you are eating Thanksgiving dinner with your family and relatives. In attendance are aunts and uncles, lots of cousins, your brothers and sisters, your Mom and Dad and maybe even some friends. You’re all talking and having a good time, passing the various dishes and then your Uncle starts telling the same story he tells every year, but it’s so funny everyone wants to hear it again.

Right in the middle of the story your neighbor, without knocking, bursts through the front door in a frantic hurry.

He says, “Guys, they’re invading the west end of town! We gotta go.”

Without hesitating your Dad, two uncles, two older male cousins and your older brother quickly get up from the table. In the corner of the room there are a bunch of rifles that all the men grab, one of your cousins is only 16 and one of your uncles is 60. The older men quickly kiss their wives and rush out the door followed by your cousins and brother. Your can hear car doors slam shut and then the vehicles speed off. It’s silent in the dining room now. Your aunts and your Mom look worried. No one is eating while your relatives are fighting the invaders who plan to take away your freedoms.

Each of our books has a short historical introduction followed by easy step-by-step instructions to draw the monument

We are planning to have this book out before the end of the year. In the meantime check out our first three books in Draw Your American Heritage series:
