Note: Draw Oceania has been published.
Draw Oceania is moving forward, but the last book in the Draw Map series presents some unique challenges not faced in the previous books.
Islands!
There are lots and lots and lots and lots of islands scattered throughout the Pacific Ocean. Drawing all of them would be impractical for your students, so Kristin is picking out the most important ones….which still leaves a lot of islands!
The challenge is presenting them in a way that will make it easy for your students to place them in the correct positions. Kristin has settled on two solutions: a unique grid and outlining the group of islands within the grid. This will allow your students to more accurately place the islands based on the outline.
But just drawing a random outline can be difficult too, especially if you want your students to eventually be able to draw the map from memory. Hmmmm….let’s see….in the Pacific…in a big ocean…..how about……sea creatures?
Where Does that Hammerhead Go?
Most of the outlines are based upon sea creatures: hammerhead shark, jelly fish, crab, clams, silver dollars and more. This will give your students a nice device to remember the island groups. Once they have completed their map, they can leave the outlines if they wish or erase them.
We are still not sure when the book will be ready for sale. Kristin is hoping to have it ready by the time of the Great Homeschool Convention in California.
We shall see!
