Because of The Liberty Bell’s connection to the Declaration of Independence, something your students will learn about in our upcoming book, The Liberty Bell, I’ve decided to also publish a book on the Declaration of Independence.
I want to make the Declaration of Independence as accessible as possible for younger students without paraphrasing it, or simplifying it or dumbing it down. This book will contain the complete Declaration of Independence….but in manageable chunks. I’m thinking of titling the book, The Declaration of Independence: Chunky Style. Not sure yet.

A signer of the Declaration of Independence (Francis Hopkinson, Esq.) trying to steal credit from me!
The book will have a brief introduction to the Declaration, then on each two page spread, the left will be an explanation of what’s coming and the right will have the “chunk” from the Declaration of Independence, one of the most important documents in the history of the world. It’s still part of the Draw Your American Heritage series, but as a companion book there will be no drawing in it.
Though it is a companion book it will stand alone without the need or requirement to purchase The Liberty Bell.
Throughout the book portraits of the signers, with talk bubbles, will explain pertinent information or just try to be funny with their comments. I’ve talked to them about this and they’re okay with it as long as they aren’t ridiculed or made fun of, something I assure you I wouldn’t do to the founding fathers…unless absolutely necessary. To get a laugh I might have to break the rules a bit.
At the end of the book the complete Declaration of Independence will be available without interruption and the signers of Declaration will be listed with portraits if available (most are).
I’m not sure yet if I’ll do color or black and white. I’m leaning toward color, but this will limit pages if I’m to keep the book at $9.99, so we shall see.
Any companion books for the Draw Your American Heritage series will be in a 6″ x 9″ format.
